So what does the Syam region cover? Explanations by Jasser Al 'Anani in his book, Fath Sholahuddin Al Ayyubi Li Bayt Al Maqdis bayna Al Siyasah wa Al Harb' dan Abdul Salam Al Jubori dalam 'Al Musyayidat Al Waqfiyyah wa Al Khoiriyyah, could serve as a reference.
Both said that the countries of Syria lie along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and are in the middle of three continents, namely Asia, Africa and Europe. Its borders were clarified in ancient times, as it bordered the Mediterranean Sea to the west, and Egypt and the Sinai Valley to the south.
As for the east, it borders on the desert which stretches from Aila to the Euphrates river, and from there to the border of Rum, because Rum is located north of Syria. Based on this, Syria includes Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Jordan.
These regions have a strategic geographic location, which plays a major role in regional instability. Now, the Sham region is an area that is often hit by conflict, especially Palestine.
Sham is included in the temperate zone in terms of degrees of latitude. In addition, Syria contributes to economic prosperity because of its connectivity with transportation routes with various neighboring countries.
